If there’s one thing I’ve learned from baking with my kids, it’s that the kitchen is a fantastic place for little hands to explore and create. While we often indulge in sweet treats, it’s equally important to introduce them to the world of savory delights. My easy cheese scone recipe is a perfect starting point, and I assure you, it’s a hit with children and adults alike.

Recipe for Success

Now, let’s delve into the easy-to-follow recipe that promises a delightful batch of Mary Berry-inspired cheese scones.

Ingredients:

  • 250g (2 cups) self-raising flour
  • 60g (1/4 cup) butter
  • 125g (1 cup) cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 egg
  • 160ml (2/3 cup) milk (approx)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220C / 200C Fan / 425F and line two baking trays with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the flour and butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Add grated cheese and mustard powder, mix well.
  4. Crack the egg into a measuring jug, add milk to make 160ml, whisk together.
  5. Slowly add the milk to the flour mixture, creating a soft but firm dough.
  6. Roll out the dough, cut out scones, and place them on the prepared baking trays.
  7. Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with finely grated cheese.
  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with butter or additional cheese.
